The AI Compute Race Glossary Strong form

Strong form

What does “Strong form” mean?

Strong form

Two uses. Of the military claim, that the first state with sufficiently advanced AI gains a decisive, durable advantage over every rival, including a nuclear peer; the weak form holds only that AI already improves intelligence, cyber operations, targeting and research, and the medium form that it gives a sustained operational edge. Of the wager, chapter 12’s strong form is that one generation of models does most of the research for the next. Chapters 1, 12.

Where the book uses it

  • Chapter 1 — The Stakes

What the race is for: the belief that a lead in AI can compound into a lasting advantage, how long such leads have actually lasted, and what a trillion dollars a year is being bet against.

  • Chapter 12 — Cross-Examination

The book’s own thesis put on trial: five claims, each scored against the record and given a dated test that could prove it wrong.
