Dutch Covid Doctors Collective

At the start of this week Artsen Covid Collectief (English: Covid Doctors Collective) was launched. Their website (Dutch only) is https://artsencollectief.nl/

Their aim of is to open up broader debate regarding the coronavirus measures.

The references provided on their websites make it clear that the measures (e.g. lockdowns) taken by government lack scientific evidence and are disproportionate.

So much so that democracy is being taken over by a medical dictatorship.

Artsen Covid Collectief six stated goals:

Goal 1: Remove the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the list A of notifiable diseases.

Statement: COVID-19 does not appear to be more dangerous or more deadly than other flu viruses.

More than 98% of people do not or hardly become ill when infected. Mean mortality is now estimated at 0.3% and is probably lower.

Goal 2: Scaling down the measures and returning to ‘normal’ as soon as possible.

Statement: The current corona measures cause more damage than they try to prevent.

The collateral damage in the social, economic, physical and psychological areas is enormous and is disproportionate to the intended or necessary protection against the virus.

Goal 3: Lifting restrictions on freedoms and fundamental rights.

Thesis: The threat of the virus no longer justifies restrictions on freedoms and fundamental rights.

Vulnerable people deserve extra attention. Measures may only be applied in consultation and on the basis of free choice. Based on scientific evidence where possible.

Goal 4: Clarify the purpose of the measures

Statement: The original goal (flattening the curve) has long been achieved.

Goal 5: Discontinue use of the PCR test in people who do not have flu symptoms.

The PCR test should only be used to detect a virus in a sick person and is not suitable for detecting “infections” in the general population.

Goal 6: Government policy should primarily focus on health promotion.

Giliam Kuijpers

There is not a doctor in the Netherlands who does not want the very best for his patients. That is just an intrinsic motivation, it is simply a basic foundation on which our profession is based.

And then we have the doctor’s oath of importance, as a moral compass, in fact.

And that moral compass, I feel, is heading in completely the wrong direction at the moment and we have lost sight of humanity as a result.

Marcel Tóth

I have been a psychiatrist for 26 years now and have been in psychiatry for 33 years, so that is quite a long time.

Evelien Peeters

I have been a doctor for 13 years. And I really enjoy working in the outpatient clinic, doing departmental work, being in the emergency room.

Sylvia Douma

I am a geriatric specialist and I have worked in this field for almost 30 years.

Giliam Kuijpers

I was a pediatrician. But I eventually gave up because I started to follow my heart. I found out that I can contribute much more to the well functioning of doctors.

Hannah Visser

I am an internist/infectiologist. This means that my focus area in the hospital is infectious diseases.

Jan Vosters

I am a doctor of Society and Health. And I have worked for 20 years as director of Municipal Health Services (GGD) in southeast Brabant.

Hannah Visser

Patients get ill, that is very sad. I think it is important to find out exactly what is going on in order to find out how best to treat them. But the best thing about my job is to be able to provide those patients with really good care. And to get to know the person behind the patient as well.

André Steketee

I am there at the moment of birth, I am there at the moment of euthanasia or dying. It is an entire cycle of life I am allowed to experience.

Sylvia Douma

We as specialists in geriatric medicine are confronted with death every day, every week. But because of this crisis, it seems as if we are no longer allowed to die.

Evelien Peeters

Many people are particularly afraid of infecting others I notice, there is a lot of anxiety, a lot of fear.

Marcel Tóth

Fear excludes. If you are in fear, there is always an idea why you are in fear. And if you’re really in it, it’s not possible to distance yourself from it or put it into perspective.

Hannah Visser

We often get that [overloaded] in winter. That we cannot admit more patients or that transfers have to be made. It happened all the time, and this was before corona.

Jan Vosters

I find it difficult to bring things out in the open in such a tense environment. Think we have now reached the point where we must. That we must appeal to both politicians and the public: these are the facts, these are the pros and cons.

Evelien Peeters

I am concerned because the measures are based on public health, and are taken in the name of public health. Ultimately winds up with doctors. I think that we as doctors are all responsible for what is happening at the moment.

Sylvia Douma

My role is not to lock people up. To lock them away from their families, their children, their grandchildren so that they become unhappy, lonely.

And by doing so, weaken their immune system and because of that become ill.

Marcel Tóth

One of the most important things I would like to see changed in the current policy is a way of communication that is much more reassuring. And also limiting this communication in terms of the risks that actually exist.

Hannah Visser

We are wearing glasses and hats and I don’t know what. And.. it is dealt with in an extreme way. I think it is as if we are dealing with Ebola. If you get that, then you are really doomed. Those patients are also super anxious to get that test result.

But when someone hears, “You have influenza,” they say, “Ok.” With corona, you see the fear of death appear in their eyes.

“it is as if we are dealing with Ebola… when someone hears, ‘You have influenza,’ they say, ‘Ok.’ With corona, you see the fear of death appear in their eyes.

Hannah Visser

Internist Infectiologist, Beatrixziekenhuis

Then you really have to support them and explain: this is also something you can simply heal from, most people just heal. I find it extreme, how this is experienced.

Jan Vosters

When people are told “put on your face mask because you don’t want your grandmother to die”, I think it is pure extortion. Moral blackmail. And you have to stay away from that.

Evelien Peeters

Above all, we are committed to ensure that as many people as possible receive the best possible care. And receive help when this is necessary.

And that we abandon the belief that “health is the absence of corona”.

Marcel Tóth

This also means moving away as quickly as possible from generic measures and towards measures targeted at specific risk groups. These risk groups are now well known.

Evelien Peeters

The coronavirus we are now dealing with is an almost negligible mortality risk for people under 60.

And yes, it makes some people uncomfortably ill, but there are many more diseases.

André Steketee

Everyone who works in this line of work recognizes what we really can do. But we are not granted the opportunity to do so, because the measures restrict us. So I cannot provide the good care because the measures are in place.

December 21, 2020

“The coronavirus we are now dealing with is an almost negligible mortality risk for people under 60.”

Evelien Peeters

Internist Endocrinologist, UMC Utrecht

And I want to talk to the people who make up the policies in order to be able to deal with this in a creative way, but also deal with it in a really good way. So that we can hand them the input they cannot obtain from virologists.

Evelien Peeters

When taking distancing measures, when taking hygiene measures, the use of face masks, distancing measures, we prevent the immune system of healthy people from learning and strengthening it, we are actually weakening society.

Because the protection layers that healthy people can form between the virus and the vulnerable we are not building very well because of all the measures that we have in place.

Giliam Kuijpers

So I would like to ask all my colleagues in the Netherlands: please look very sincerely at what is going on in the Netherlands and in the world right now.

December 21, 2020

“When taking distancing measures, when taking hygiene measures, the use of face masks, distancing measures, we prevent the immune system of healthy people from learning and strengthening it, we are actually weakening society.”

Evelien Peeters

Internist Endocrinologist, UMC Utrecht

Base yourself on your moral compass and stand up for all yours patients, all your colleagues and, in fact, all of humanity.

And don’t mince your words, speak up!
